Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)

 

The acronym STDs stands for the sexually transmitted diseases.


As the name itself suggests these are the diseases that are transmitted through the close or intimate sexual contact. These are infectious ones that are acquired by one partner from another infected one.

 

This clearly means that, if one spouse is a patient of some venereal or sexual disease, he or she is definitely to transmit the same to his or her spouse via the sexual contact.

 

The STDs are more frequently reported among the bisexuals, the homosexuals, the prostitutes and the ones those who are the having the multiple sexual partners. In short they acquire these diseases by the sexual contact.

 

The diseases included in these category are HIV and AIDS, syphilis, gonorrhoea, Chlamydia, chanchroid or the soft genital sores, etc. and others. These all diseases are infectious in nature and once occurred it needs prompt and regular treatment.

Of all the diseases the most common one is the HIV and AIDS, the most fatal disease. It is a silent killer that affects the body’s immune mechanisms and makes the person vulnerable to life threatening opportunistic infections. The others are infectious but are have lesser severity than this.

 

Nowadays the public awareness regarding these diseases have helped in the early diagnosis and prompt treatment and reduced its severity and complications. The treatment is made available to the general affected population and the awareness programs are held so as to create and promote the sense of well being and reduce the occurrences of these diseases.
