PREGNANCY WEEK 10

AROUND 8 WEEKS AFTER CONCEPTION:


Pregnancy Week 10During this week the embryo grows still longer and becomes of 30-60 mm in lengthen. From now onwards, it is called a fetus.

 

The external genitalia of the fetus start to grow and develop.


During this week the fetus starts to float within the womb most of the joints in the body are formed by this time.

 

What changes are expected in you, mom?

 

You may experience some emotional changes such as mood swings that even you may not understand yourself. Your hormones may bring up blotchy patches on your cheeks, face which is known as the chloasma.

However a little bit of relaxation to you as by this week the morning sickness will get down.

 

Let me tell you that pregnancy is a state of hypervolemia---the increase in the fluid volume which in turn increases the total body weight.

 

Moreover the veins start to be engorged especially in the legs, breasts and your tummy.


For a healthy woman, the total weight gain during the course of the singleton pregnancy should be around 28 lbs or 11 kg.

 

The distribution of this total weight gain can be shown as below:

 

Fetus---                             7.5 lbs
Uterus---                           2.0 lbs
Placenta---                        1.5 lbs
Liquor amnii---                  2.0 lbs
Blood and fluidvolume---  8.0 lbs
Accumulation of fat---       7.0 lbs
